My Past With Fast Food

While growing up my parents tried their best to keep my brothers and I away from fast food. They only wanted the best for us. When I was young, my mom tried to provide us with home cooked meals as much as possible. When we refused to eat our vegetables, she insisted we needed them in order for us to grow healthy and strong. Our parents tried to encourage us to eat fruits and vegetables and to avoid unhealthy meals. At that time I didn’t really understand the reason why some food was healthy and some was not, all that cared about was whether or not I liked the taste of the food. If I liked the taste I wouldn’t mind eating it, but if I disliked the flavor I would put up a fight to eat it. Once in a while our parents would take us to McDonald’s as a treat. This would usually happen on the weekend, when my mom was too tired and wanted to take a small break from cooking. My brother and I would usually get a happy meal, we loved the fact that the meal came with a small toy. Since our visits to McDonald’s were not too often, I always looked forward to eating there and getting a new toy.
Now that I am older I find myself relying on fast food as a source for my daily meals more often than before.  Currently I have a very busy schedule consisting of school and work, which significantly limits the amount of time I have a day.  Unfortunately, I rarely have the time to prepare myself homemade meals. I’m always on the go and rarely spend time at home. When I get hungry I’ll stop by to grab some fast food. It’s quick, easy, and does not require a lot of my time. When spending time with my friends I also find myself eating at some sort of fast food place location.  When I eat out I typically order a combo consisting of a burger, fries, and a soda.
Regardless of my reliance on fast food, I am aware it is very negative towards your health. Fast food can cause many diseases and serious health problems that can reduce the quality of life. It is very high in calories, which makes it more likely to become obese. I know that by consuming such food I am making myself more susceptible to all of these health related complications.  Recently my habit of eating fast food has caused me to gain some weight and I am not happy at all. As a result I have determined to make some changes in my life. From now on, I will try to make wiser choices when it comes to selecting food and I will definitely stay away from fast food.  I want to become a healthier person by providing my body with the essential nutrients and vitamins it needs. I also plan to become more physically active so that I can be healthy as well as fit.

  1. Hey Dennys,
It is good to hear that you are going to make a change for your health. I personally know that hard habits, especially those that consist of food can be hard to break, but trust me you can do it. You sound like a hard worker and I'm sure you can accomplish this as well. Good luck with your new health plans!
